Sid Burnstein is currently the managing director of Burnstein & Burnstein. He assumed this position directly out of Rutgers Law School in New Jersey. Sid has been involved in the debt collection business his entire life however as a third generation debt collector, he owes much to those who preceded him.
His grandfather Israel J. Burnstein (1894-1971) was one of the original debt collector’s in his home town of Philadelphia and our nation. He opened his first office in 1928 at the Packard Building which still stands at 15th and Chestnut Streets in downtown Philadelphia. In the 1930’s, as was the custom, he would drive through the streets of Philadelphia using a primitive mega phone to collect for his clients.
Sid’s father Joseph J. Burnstein (Born 1928) continued on as a prominent collection attorney in Philadelphia. He was instrumental in advocating the sweeping changes that occurred in 1977 through the signing of the fair debt collection practices act (Public law 95-109) by President Jimmy Carter. This legislation effectively cleaned up the debt collection industry and eliminated the great majority of unscrupulous practitioners.
In 1989, Sid fulfilled a lifetime dream and relocated Burnstein & Burnstein to the Tampa Bay, Florida area. The Burnstein family has served creditors and fiercely advocated creditor’s rights for nearly a century. We consider each and every client, no matter how large or small, as family.
